Johanna Rosa Falkinger

Biography

Johanna Rosa Falkinger began her musical education at the Musikgymnasium and the ABPU Linz with Christa Ratzenböck, with an Erasmus stay at the Sibelius Academy Helsinki. In 2023, she completed an early music degree at the MUK Vienna with Roberta Invernizzi and a master's degree in vocal pedagogy at the mdw Vienna with Tanya Aspelmeier with honours. Recent engagements have taken her to the Salzburg Festival (YSP) as the leading actress in Ravel's L'Enfant et les Sortileges and to the Wuppertal Opera as Drusilla/Virtù in Monteverdi's L'Incoronazione di Poppea, as Incosia in Andrea Bernasconi's L'Huomo at the Potsdam Music Festival, as Almirena in Giovanni Bononcini's Griselda at the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival and with Jordi Savall at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg (Mendelssohn, A Midsummer Night's Dream).

In the 23/24 season she can be heard with Christina Pluhar (Purcell, Dido and Aeneas) at Herrenhausen Barock, the Concentus Musicus Wien and the Orchester Wiener Akademie at the Wiener Musikverein (Bach, various cantatas and St Matthew Passion) and with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (Beethoven 9th Symphony) in Singapore. Further engagements as Cupid in Blow's Venus and Adonis in Hanover, as Clizia in Handel's Teseo at the Handel Festival Halle and as La Musica and Euridice in Monteverdi's L’Orfeo at the Styriarte Graz.

Johanna is a prizewinner of the Concours Corneille in Rouen (FR) and the International Johann Heinrich Schmelzer Competition in Melk Abbey (AT). She was also awarded first prize and all orchestral prizes at the Aria Borealis singing competition in Bodø (NO) in 2022. In the same year, she caused a sensation with her musical woodchop project "soprano at work" and her composition "Puniscimi ancor di più" inspired by Barbara Strozzi and Britney Spears.

She has completed masterclasses with Kurt Widmer, Margreet Honig, Malcolm Martineau, Christiane Karg, Emma Kirkby, William Mason, Ulrike Hofbauer, Tuuli Lindeberg, Soile Isokoski, Ulrike Sych and Christiane Iven.
