Timothy Edlin
Biography
The English Bassbaritone Timothy Edlin started his musical education as a chorister in Canterbury Cathedral before continuing his studies at the University of Manchester and then at the Royal College of Music in London. Between 2019-2021 he was a member of the OpernStudio NRW, with whom he performed principle roles in opera houses across North Rhine Westphalia including: Theater Dortmund, Aalto Theater Essen, Oper Wuppertal and Gelsenkirchen Musiktheater Im Revier. Based in NRW Germany, operatic and concert engagements take him all across Germany as well as internationally, with recent and coming commitments in the UK, France, Spain, Austria, Malta and the USA.
Operatic highlights include Il Sagrestano (Tosca) and Borella (Die Stumme von Portici) with Oper Dortmund; Sprecher and 2. Geharnischter (Die Zauberflöte), Johann (Werther), Reinmar (Tannhauser), Antonio (Le Nozze di Figaro), Marchese d’Obigny (La Traviata) and Araldo (Il Canto s’attrista, perché? by Salvatore Sciarrino), with Opera Wuppertal and Stadttheater Klagenfurt; Achilla (Giulio Cesare by Händel), La Rocca (Un Giorno di Regno by Verdi) and the title role from Paisiello’s Il Re Teodoro in Venezia with Gelsenkirchen MiR; Petrucci (Lucrezia Borgia by Donizetti) with Aalto Theater Essen; Abbot (Britten’s Curlew River) with Theater Aachen; Bottom (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) for RCMIOS as well as Snug for Neville Holt Opera; Officer and Arthur (Peter Maxwell Davies’s The Lighthouse) and Badger/Priest (The Cunning Little Vixen) for RCMIOS; Teobaldo (Faramondo) with The London Handel Festival; The Devil (Judith Weir’s The Vanishing Bridegroom) and Caliban (Jeremy Sam’s The Enchanted Island) with British Youth Opera, and Colline (La Bohème) with Rye Arts Festival.

As a Concert, Oratorio and Song singer, Timothy has performed as a soloist in numerous prestigious venues, including the Wigmore Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, Palau de la Música in Barcelona, the Philharmonie Essen, Konzerthaus Dortmund, the Chapel of King’s College Cambridge as well as appearing live on Radio 3 from the BBC studios. He is a recent winner of the Salvat Beca Bach competition, and was invited to perform concerts across Spain including with Masaaki Suzuki as part of the Bachcelona Festival. Other highlights include performing Mauricio Kagel’s “Fürst Igor, Strawinsky” with players from the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Foyle Future First at the Royal Festival Hall in London. He was also awarded 1st Prize in the Royal College of Music’s Concerto Competition, performing Mussorgsky’s “Songs and Dances of Death” (orch. Aho) with the RCM symphony orchestra. Timothy is an active song and lieder singer, featuring previously as a recital artist with performances as part of the Deal Festival and the Lichfield Festival and recently in venues across Germany.
In the 2024/25 season, Timothy will perform the role of the Timagene in Poro at the Handelfestival Halle and Konzerthaus Dortmund with oh Orkiestra, the roles of Verwalter and Waechter in Lady Macbeth von Mzensk at the Oper Leipzig under the baton of Andris Nelsons, as well as St. Matthew Passion in Bonn.
